Roeslein Alternative Energy (RAE) was founded in 2012 as an operator and developer of renewable energy production facilities that converts agricultural and industrial wastes along with renewable biomass feedstocks to renewable natural gas and sustainable co-products.
Our first project is located on 9 farms in northern Missouri, working with Smithfield’s Hog Production Division. One of our main goals was to create a process to collect and process raw biogas in a way that worked for Smithfield’s largest farm as well as their smallest farm. RAE is using a modular approach that allows the majority of the facility to be built in Roeslein & Associates’ modular fabrication facility by skilled manufacturing and construction professionals and then reassembled onsite using minimal onsite construction. This approach allows us to deliver the highest quality product on time, continually improve designs, and increase construction phase productivity.
RAE is currently working with large concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) where the smallest farm is roughly 40,000 hogs and the largest has 170,000. The difference in farm size increases the importance for RAE to create a solution that allows scalability across the board regardless of farm size. Roeslein & Associates has developed a 500 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) system that can fit the needs of a small farm and can easily add additional systems to handle the capacity required from larger farms. By fabricating these systems at the manufacturing facility and shipping them to the farm, we are able to benefit from the economies scale per unit. This allows us to scale a 500 scfm system to fit the needs of a 2,000 scfm farm at a savings when compared to designing one larger system. Another item that sets us apart is our ability to use the lessons learned from each of our projects to fine-tune our modular approach and continue to improve our overall system design.
